Join this channel to get early access to new videos a week ahead of their public release: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC8R7kmt-W14zWUcr8mymEQ/join Hello there! :D While British Leyland has long received a bad wrap for its slew of underperforming cars, the reality is that behind the scenes there were many great and cutting edge proposals that not only would have elevated British Leyland's own technological prowess, but were also extremely advanced and forward-thinking for the wider car industry in general, with one notable example being the ECV2 and ECV3 test prototypes that were developed during the early 1980s. The ECV2 and ECV3 were non-production models created as a means of testing lighter materials in combination with more fuel efficient engines that would, together, create a new generation of supermini with fuel efficiency ratings of up to and beyond 100mpg, making them exceptionally efficient machines even by modern standards, though ultimately, while the models the research gathered in the ECV cars were supposed to help develop were cancelled prior to production starting, the information gathered by the ECV test vehicles would help predict the future of supermini technology going forward.
