British Aircraft Industry - The Final Sell-Out - 1970 to 2001

Join this channel to get early access to new videos a week ahead of their public release: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC8R7kmt-W14zWUcr8mymEQ/join Hello everyone! :D As something of a sequel to my BAC 3-11 video, this extended length documentary follows the British Aircraft Industry in the aftermath of the proposed airliner's cancellation in December 1970, leaving a deflated and demoralised series of manufacturers who had now fully embraced the notion that the UK government would not support the domestic builders in the creation of new and spectacular airliner projects if they conflicted with the interests of the Europeans or Americans. However, this era was not without its concepts, and the British aircraft industry would prove that it still had the expertise and talent where it mattered when it came to developing regional jetliners, with some, like the BAe 146, actually coming to fruition and selling healthily, while others, like JET, would form the foundations of the globe-spanning Airbus A320, though none of these models would reverse the fact that Britain was now well and truly playing second fiddle to the masters of Airbus and Boeing going into the 1980s and 1990s. A majority of the information gathered about the British Aircraft Industry comes from the superb publication of Graziano Freschi, titled "The Bac Three-Eleven: The British Airbus That Should Have Been". This book is a fascinating read that has confirmed many of my own long suspicions regarding the course of the British aviation industry, with particular emphasis on its general collapse in the 1960s and 70s, my video, despite its length, barely scratching the surface as to the amount of detail available within this incredible book, supported by diagrams, and statements, quotes and interviews from the people involved. It's a thoroughly recommended read for anyone with a deep and passionate interest in the UK aircraft building industry: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bac-Three-Eleven-Graziano-Freschi/dp/0752439138 Chapters: 0:00 - Preamble 1:03 - France Rises and Britain Falls 4:35 - Europlane 8:50 - BAC 1-11 600, 700 and 800 11:05 - Hawker Siddely HS.146 15:18 - The Group of Seven 19:27 - BAC X-11 22:08 - JET (Joint European Transport) 27:13 - BAe Tries to Get Out 29:55 - America vs. Europe 36:29 - Britain's Final Surrender 41:07 - Conclusion All video content and images in this production have been provided with permission wherever possible.
