Eldredge Prize 2025 Virtual Lecture with Faye Raquel Gleisser

Faye R. Gleisser, associate professor of art history at Indiana University, presents her lecture “Risk Work: Towards an Art History for Surviving the Carceral Present,” on December 11, 2025. Dr. Gleisser is the 2025 recipient of the Charles C. Eldredge Prize for her book "Risk Work: Making Art and Guerrilla Tactics in Punitive America, 1967–1987" (2023). The book analyzes the complex relationship between artists’ deployments of guerrilla tactics, state power, and policing in North America through interlaced re-readings of conceptual and performance art that mine photographic archives, criminal code reform, and emergent surveillance technologies. The Smithsonian American Art Museum awards the Eldredge Prize annually in recognition of originality and thoroughness of research and excellence in writing.
