Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) on Friday expressed solidarity with the Jewish community and thanked law enforcement following an attack on a synagogue in the Detroit area.
"Yesterday's attack was antisemitism. It was hate, plain and simple," she said at a press conference. "We will fight this ancient and rampant evil, we will stand together as we do it, and we will call it out."
Authorities say the suspect in Thursday's attack rammed a truck into the Temple Israel synagogue, sparking a fire, and exchanged gunfire with security before a guard shot and killed him. The guard was injured, and no fatalities were reported.
