Moose Nose & Beaver Tail in the Yukon | Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern

Andrew follows the Yukon Gold Rush Trail, where the 1896 discovery drew 100,000 hopeful dreamers to the beautiful but unforgiving Yukon. While many perished on the harsh journey, First Nations people have long thrived in the region. Today, grit is still essential—and Andrew puts his to the test with those who call the Yukon home. Traveling 50 miles into the Yukon Territory to Carcross, Andrew meets Tlingit artist Keith Wolfe Smarch and his son Aaron, renowned for their traditional totem poles and masks—two of which reside in England’s royal collection. Keith’s wife, Donna, an expert in wilderness logistics, introduces Andrew to her nose-to-tail cuisine: moose intestine, moose nose with pickled beet and horseradish, and beaver tail. The family then hunts for arctic ground squirrel. After a lively but fruitless trek, they pause for Hudson Bay tea, brewed from foraged Labrador leaves and rosehips. Keith and Donna later share game from earlier hunts: hoary marmot, ground squirrel, Dall sheep, and mountain goat.
